Rubrical Expressions (2025)
Wind Ensemble and Pipe Organ | 16 min 20

Rubrical Expressions is a multi-movement work for wind ensemble and organ loosely based on a mass setting. The difficulty level ranges across movements and the piece is modular, allowing conductors to pick the movement(s) that best fit their ensemble. The organ part is easily adapted for most concert-hall-sized instruments.

Instrumentation: Flute 1-2, Oboe 1 (2 cued elsewhere), Clarinet 1-3, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon 1-2 (cued elsewhere), Alto Saxophone 1-2, Tenor Saxophone (opt.), Baritone Saxophone, Trumpets 1-3, Horns 1-2 (3 & 4 opt.), Trombone 1-2, Bass Trombone (opt.), Euphonium, Tuba, String Bass (opt.) 4 percussionists, pipe organ

Movements:

1. Kyrie: A Cry Grows Louder 5’ 

2. Gloria: Shouts of Praise 3’15”

3. Sanctus: Song of Mirth and Power 4’15”

4. Agnus Dei: Peace and Reprise 3’50”
